STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN
2009-2010 Academic Year

Dear Student:

Many students, on reaching the age of 19, are ineligible for coverage by their families’ health plans and therefore may face unexpected costs of emergency Sickness or Accidents that may have a dramatic effect on their educational plans. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts mandates that each public or independent institution of higher education in Massachusetts require all full-time and three-quarter time students enrolled in the institution to participate in a qualifying student health insurance program or in a health insurance program with comparable coverage. If you will be a matriculating student at Clark on September 1, 2009, you must complete a waiver/enrollment form by July 24, 2009, indicating either:

  • That you want to be enrolled in the Clark Student Health Insurance plan or,
  • That you have comparable coverage under another plan. (Please contact your current carrier to confirm your coverage meets the Massachusetts State requirements.)

Note: if you are covered by an HMO outside of the Worcester area, your coverage may be limited or not available while at Clark.

Students, who do not complete a health insurance waiver/enrollment form by July 24, 2009, will be automatically enrolled in the Clark University Student Health Insurance Plan in order for the University to be in compliance with Massachusetts Law. A health insurance form must be on file for each year the student is enrolled. Students will not be eligible for a refund for Student Insurance after September 15, 2009.

The Clark University Student Health Insurance Plan for the 2009-2010 year was negotiated with University Health Plans, Inc and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA. The plan covers students from August 15, 2009, through August 15, 2010. The cost to an individual student is $1,257 for the Annual plan and $744 for new students starting in the Spring.
