Simmons College is pleased to announce that we have teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield to provide health insurance coverage for our students. Please review the 2014-2015 Summary of Benefits carefully. Many benefits have changed for the 2014-2015 Plan Year due to the rising health insurance premiums.
All students taking 9 or more credits are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law Simmons College students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Plan, which is separate from the Health Center fee. Students are not allowed to waive coverage with a foreign insurance carrier or Health Safety Net Plan.
Although all students are automatically enrolled in the plan each year unless they file a waiver, qualified applicants who are eligible to enroll in the plan are encouraged to fill out an enrollment form on line here. The enrollment form will confirm that you want the student health insurance, and result in you receiving an insurance card sooner than through the automatic enrollment process. The Student Health Insurance is effective August 15, 2014 through August 14, 2015. The annual premium for an undergraduate student is $2,655 and the annual premium for a graduate student is $4,365.
Students taking less than 9 credits are no longer eligible to purchase the student health insurance.
If you have a comparable health insurance plan, you may waive the student coverage by clicking on the waiver form below. You will need to have your health insurance information readily available before proceeding. Upon confirmation of a properly completed waiver, the charge for medical insurance will be reversed on your student account. If you lose coverage during the academic year, then you are obligated to obtain other comparable coverage or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan within 60 days.
Please take into consideration that the benefits that are available under the student health insurance plan may be secondary to or in excess of the benefits provided by any other plan(s). The benefits provided by this student health insurance plan may be reduced by the benefits provided by those plan(s).
