Health Insurance Requirement

Full-time students - undergraduate students taking 12 or more credits, and graduate students taking 9 or more credits - are automatically billed for the College-Sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. Students may waive (opt out) of this coverage by submitting the waiver form and providing proof of other health insurance before the deadline. To waive coverage and have the charge removed from your bill, please click on the Waiver Form link in the left-hand navigation menu. 

Please allow 2 days from the date you completed your insurance waiver for the credit to appear on your account.

The waiver deadline for Spring 2026 is February 27, 2026.

Plan Highlights

The Student Health Insurance Plan will continue to be provided by Aetna Student Health. The plan is ACA-compliant and offers access to Aetna's national PPO network of providers. Studentsare not required to choose a primary care physician, and no referrals are required.

Ramapo has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and assist with waiver, enrollment, or benefit-related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 833-251-1149 or info@univhealthplans.com.

Fall 2025

The Annual Student Health Insurance fee will be billed to all full-time students during the Fall billing cycle. Students who waive coverage in the Fall cannot enroll in the Spring semester unless they experience a Qualifying Life Event as defined by the plan.

Spring 2026

The Spring/Summer Student Health Insurance fee will be automatically billed to all NEW incoming full-time students for the Spring 2026 semester. This charge can be waived if the student already has qualifying health insurance coverge by filling out the waiver form linked in the left-hand sidebar.

Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Information

Students are required to enroll in or waive the College-Sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan each academic year. If you plan to keep the Student Health Insurance, you may confirm enrollment before the College's specified enrollment period. The enrollment form link is located on the left-hand side navigation menu.

The College reserves the right to audit all waivers to ensure compliance with the College's insurance requirements. Please be sure to have a copy of your insurance policy, as you may be asked to provide documentation. Pending insurance coverage or a letter from your employer, or a third company is NOT acceptable.

Early Termination (Not Permitted)

Ramapo College of New Jersey and Aetna Student Health DO NOT prorate health insurance premiums or adjust effective dates of coverage. Students will not be removed from SHIP coverage based upon graduation, withdrawal from the University, or a new insurance plan post-waiver deadline. SHIP coverage will remain in effect until the end of the policy period.

Qualifying Event

Students who waive coverage in the Fall cannot enroll in the Spring semester unless they experience a Qualifying Life Event as defined by the plan. If you experience a qualifying life event, you may enroll in health insurance within the first 31 days after the life event, even if it is outside the Open Enrollment Period. To enroll due to a qualifying life event, email University Health Plans for access to the enrollment form at info@univhealthplans.com.

Part-time students

The Student Health Insurance Plan is not available to part-time students.
