Pine Manor College

2017-2018 Academic Year

Dear Pine Manor Students (and Parents),

Pine Manor requires all three-quarter and full time students to be enrolled in a health insurance plan while attending the College. To meet this requirement, you may either choose to be enrolled in Pine Manor’s Student Health Insurance Plan (also called the “Student Health Plan”) or rely on your own coverage, if comparable.

BEFORE THE DEADLINE OF February 9, 2018.

Any newly eligible Spring 2018 student who does not submit a form by that deadline will remain charged for and will be automatically enrolled in the Pine Manor College Student Health Insurance Plan. Students who are automatically enrolled will receive their card in late-February 2018.

If you choose to maintain your current coverage, you must submit the Spring 2017-2018 Waiver Form by the deadline of February 9, 2018.

If you will be covered by the PMC Student Health Insurance Plan and wish to expedite the processing of your enrollment, you must submit the Spring 2017-2018 Enrollment Form. This also applies to students who were previously on the PMC Student Health Insurance Plan in a prior policy year and would like to be re-enrolled for the time during the new year for which they are eligible.

Links to either form are found to the left of this letter.

Requirements for Comparable Coverage
For coverage to qualify as comparable, Massachusetts Law requires that the policy must:

  • Be in effect throughout the academic year.
  • Provide comprehensive coverage of hospital (inpatient and outpatient), physician services, mental health services, prescription drug coverage, lab work, X-rays, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Provide coverage for doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in the Boston area.
  • Be underwritten by a U.S. insurance carrier. FOREIGN POLICIES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Students Covered by MassHealth
If you are under the age of 19 and currently on MassHealth, you will likely be terminated from your MassHealth plan on your 19th birthday unless you have a medical condition, disability, or child(ren). Please call MassHealth to confirm your eligibility prior to your 19th birthday to ensure that you will still be eligible for coverage.

If you are going to lose coverage during the 2017-2018 academic year, you may complete a waiver form for now. When your other coverage ends, however, you will need to enroll in the PMC Student Health Insurance Plan due to your loss of other coverage or enroll in another comparable plan. To enroll in the PMC Student Insurance Health Plan due to your loss of other coverage, you will need to contact University Health Plans (UHP) for details on your eligibility and the required premium payment. Your enrollment request (including supporting insurance documentation and full premium payment) must be received by UHP before the 31st day following the last day of your MassHealth plan.

Students Covered by Health Safety Net, Mass Health Limited, or Children’s Medical Security Plan
If you are covered by Health Safety Net, Mass Health Limited, or Children’s Medical Security Plan, you are not eligible to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan.

Pine Manor Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan – General Information
The 2017-2018 Pine Manor Student Health Insurance Plan is underwritten by National Guardian Life Insurance Company. Claims are processed by Consolidated Health Plans and the program is managed and serviced by University Health Plans, Inc.

Although many families may have insurance, it's important to ensure that students are adequately covered in the area of their school. Though many of a student’s general and mental health issues can be met by PMC’s Student Health Services, there are times when outside providers or additional consultation is warranted. At such times, the Student Health Plan sponsored by the College would provide coverage both locally and worldwide and would allow students to have access to nationwide networks of preferred providers and participating pharmacies.

Enrollment/Waiver Process Recap All three-quarter time and full time students (eligible students) will be automatically enrolled in and billed for the Pine Manor Student Health Insurance Plan. The Annual 2017-2018 policy runs from August 15, 2017, through August 14, 2018. The Spring 2018 policy runs from January 1, 2018, through August 14, 2018.

Eligible Fall 2017 students who have other, comparable health insurance coverage throughout the policy year may choose not to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan by submitting a Waiver Form before the extended deadline of September 29, 2017, deadline. New, eligible Spring 2018 students who have other, comparable health insurance coverage throughout the policy year may choose not to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan by submitting a Waiver Form before the February 9, 2018, deadline. All eligible students who do not submit a Waiver Form by the deadline will be enrolled in and billed for the plan.

Students who wish to enroll in the insurance plan are encouraged to go online and submit an Enrollment Form prior to the deadline. Doing so will help to avoid a delay in the processing of your enrollment or in your ability to access the benefits.

We encourage you to read the information provided and take the time to make an informed decision regarding your health coverage. If you have questions regarding the Student Health Plan, please contact University Health Plans Inc. by email at or by phone at 800-437-6448.

We look forward to a happy and healthy academic year at Pine Manor College!
