Student Health Insurance and Waiver Information

Purchase Gallaudet's Health Insurance

If you do not have insurance and will need to purchase Gallaudet's health insurance plan, you must purchase insurance by August 29, 2016 for the 2016-2017 policy year.  If you are a new spring student, you must purchase the insurance by January 17, 2017 for the Spring 2017 semester and for new summer students, no later than May 15, 2017 for the Summer 2017 semester.

Unless you have experienced a qualifying life event, if you miss the purchase deadline for your initial semester at Gallaudet, you will not be eligible to purchase the plan until the next academic year.  A new purchase form is required each academic year.

Student Health Services Fee

Every registered full-time student is eligible to use Student Health Services (SHS). Students are charged a $125.00 health fee per semester with tuition. The $125.00 health fee is not to be confused with health insurance. Certain charges are not included in the $125.00 health fee, i.e. medication, vaccinations, and laboratory tests. For a complete list of charges not included in the SHS student health fee, please contact SHS directly. A fee is charged to anyone who is not a registered student. Fees for services at SHS are billed directly to the student's account at Student Financial Services.

Waive Gallaudet's Health Insurance

The waiver process is an annual one.  Waiver forms must be submitted prior to the deadline of your first enrolled semester each year.  If you miss the waiver deadline for your initial semester, you will not be eligible to submit a waiver until the following academic year.

If you have your own insurance and need to waive Gallaudet's health insurance plan, it must be waived by August 29, 2016 for Fall semester, January 17, 2017  for the Spring 2017 semester and no later than May 15, 2017 for the Summer 2017 semester.  To waive health insurance please click on the “Waiver Form” link on the left hand side of this page.

During this process you will have to attach a scanned copy of the front and back of your health insurance card with a copy of your student ID to complete your health insurance waiver.
