2017-2018 Student Health Insurance Plan

Stevens has selected University Health Plans (UHP) to provide its student health insurance plan effective August 18, 2017 to August 18, 2018. This will be our 14th year with UHP, a company that has consistently provided excellent value and customer service to Stevens’s families. The benefits are described in the Stevens Health Insurance Plan Brochure by visiting UHP website. The 2017-2018 Plan complies with regulations associated with student health care reform legislation.

Stevens requires that all full-time students have health insurance. We recommend that all students enroll in the Stevens Student Health Insurance Plan. The Stevens Student Health Insurance Plan gives you significant access to physicians and emergency health care in the Hoboken area, eliminates requirements which may be in place when using your family insurance, and reduces paperwork for students and parents. Many families find it convenient and cost-effective to be enrolled in the Stevens Plan in addition to their family insurance. Should you decide to waive the Stevens Plan, check with your family insurance company to ensure that you will have access to medical care while you are living in Hoboken.

Students who want the Stevens Student Health Insurance Plan should submit the online enrollment form to expedite processing their enrollment. Full-time students will automatically be enrolled in the insurance plan after the deadline and the premium for coverage will be added to their tuition bill unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished. Students who have comparable insurance coverage can waive the student plan online by visiting UHP website www.universityhealthplans.com and selecting Stevens Institute of Technology. If you do not wish to purchase additional insurance because you are already enrolled in a plan that provides broad access to healthcare in the Hoboken area, then you must waive the student plan so that you are not charged.

If you are Steven’s full-time student, the Stevens health insurance plan fee of $1,835 will be applied to your student’s account for coverage effective August 18, 2017 to August 18, 2018.  The fall student health insurance enrollment or waiver deadline for undergraduate is August 31, 2017 and graduate is September 18, 2017.  The fee for new/transferring spring students is $1,152 for coverage effective January 1, 2018 to August 18, 2018.  The spring enrollment and waiver deadline for all spring students is February 9, 2018.  Waivers and enrollments must be submitted online at UHP website. No paper forms will be accepted. Students who waive or enroll in the plan online will be able to print out a confirmation and will also receive an email confirmation.

If you are a part-time student, you are eligible to enroll directly with UHP.  Coverage is also available for the spouse and children of students and for J-Visa Holders/Exchange Visitors and their dependents. Rates for voluntary participants and enrollment information for dependents can be found on UHP website.

In addition to the health insurance program, Stevens is pleased to offer our students and their dependents a Dental Insurance Plan (DeltaCare) and VSP Vision Care Plan. You may enroll in these plans on a voluntary basis. The online enrollment form, plan benefit highlights, and a list of network dentists can be found at the Stevens link on UHP website.
