STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN
2026-2027 Academic Year
The 2025-2026 annual and spring waiver and enrollment deadlines have passed. Only newly admitted and eligible summer students may waive the Summer 2026 Student Health Insurance Plan at this time. The Summer 2026 waiver deadline is July 24, 2026.
Eligibility
All students enrolled in at least 75% of a full-time course load are required by Massachusetts state law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or maintain comparable health insurance coverage. To comply with this requirement, undergraduate students registered for 9 or more credits are automatically billed for SHIP.
Graduate students, with the exception of the AE-MSN program, are not eligible for SHIP, as these programs consist of short-term courses that typically meet once per week for 15 weeks or less per semester.
Plan Highlights
The 2026–2027 Curry College Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The plan is ACA-compliant and includes access to Blue Cross Blue Shield’s national PPO network of providers. Students are not required to select a primary care physician, and referrals are not needed. A summary of benefits, the Find a Doctor tool, and FAQs are available in the left-hand navigation menu.
Curry College has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and assist with waiver, enrollment, and benefit-related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 833-251-1731 or info@univhealthplans.com.

Enrollment Process
Students who need coverage should enroll in SHIP by completing the enrollment form in the navigation menu. You must enroll to activate coverage effective August 1, 2026. Although students are automatically charged for SHIP, they are not enrolled until after the deadline. To avoid delays in accessing benefits, complete the enrollment form as soon as possible.
Waiver Process
If you are covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan, you may opt out of the Curry College SHIP by completing the waiver form located in the navigation menu. Before submitting a waiver, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of SHIP with your existing plan. To be eligible to waive, your plan must meet the following requirements:
- Your plan must provide access to doctors, specialists, hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and mental health/behavioral health providers in the area where you attend school.
- Please note that if you are a resident student enrolled in an out-of-state Medicaid, HMO, or EPO, your coverage may not be sufficient in Massachusetts. Many out-of-state plans do not provide comprehensive benefits outside of the home service area, and urgent or emergency-only coverage in Massachusetts is not sufficient and does not meet the SHIP waiver requirements.
- The policy must be a US-filed and approved, ACA (Affordable Care Act) compliant health insurance plan. International insurance plans, travel insurance, and short-term limited-duration plans are not accepted.
Waiver forms will be reviewed by the plan broker and administrator, University Health Plans. Travel insurance plans, international health insurance plans, and short-term limited-duration plans do not meet the waiver requirements and will not be accepted. Students must have a US-filed and approved Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant health insurance plan.
If you are planning to waive the student health insurance to resolve part of your outstanding student account balance you must complete the waiver before the invoice due date to avoid a late fee or other actions on your student account.
If you do not submit the waiver form by the deadline above, you will be enrolled in SHIP and will be responsible for the premium.
Qualifying Event Enrollment Process
Students who waive SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they experience an involuntary loss of other coverage. The Qualifying Event Enrollment Form is available in the navigation menu. To request a premium quote, contact University Health Plans at info@univhealthplans.com.
To enroll, you must submit an enrollment form, a letter from your prior insurance carrier documenting the loss of coverage, and payment within 60 days of the qualifying event. If all materials are received by the deadline, coverage will be effective on the first day without coverage under your prior plan.
Spring Termination Request Process
Due to Massachusetts Student Health Insurance Plan regulations, Curry College must allow students to terminate SHIP mid-academic year if they become newly eligible for a subsidized Massachusetts Health Connector Plan or MassHealth before the start of the spring term (January 1, 2027), or if they will no longer be attending the College in the spring term. To request a Spring Termination Request form, please contact University Health Plans at 833-251-1731 or info@univhealthplans.com. The deadline to request spring termination is January 31, 2027.
