Enrollment Process

Bryant University requires all students to be enrolled in a health insurance plan while attending the University. Your student may not have health insurance coverage, or adequate health insurance coverage. While the majority of Bryant students are covered by a health insurance plan, some insurance plans have barriers to accessing care (such as high deductibles, limited coverage for services received outside of the health plan's service area, or not having participating providers in the Smithfield, Rhode Island area). Please make sure that any alternative coverage includes the student's college years. International students are automatically charged and enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, but it is recomended to complete the enrollment form on the left of this page as you will not be automatically enrolled until after the published deadline.

Waiver Process

International students who have other health insurance must complete a waiver form* by the published deadline to be removed from the student health insurance plan.You can access the on-line waive form by selecting the “Waiver Form” on the left of the page. Once you complete the health insurance waiver and submit it online, the charge will be removed from your Bryant student account if the alternative insurance is acceptable. Please note that you are required to complete a new waiver form each Academic Year while you attend Bryant University. If you are waiving the plan, please provide a copy of the front and back of your insurance card to Health Services as proof of health insurance. Failure to complete the waiver will result in a student being enrolled and responsible for the student health insurance charge

To be eligible to waive, the health insurance must meet the below criteria:

  • Cannot be Out-of-State Medicaid, California-based Kaiser Permanente, or a plan with a limited PPO/HMO network of providers;
  • Must be underwritten by a US-based insurance carrier with a claims address within the United States;
  • Must provide coverage with an unlimited maximum for all essential health benefits, including prescription drugs;
  • Must provide immediate coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions;
  • Must provide coverage for the entire school year;
  • Must have local participating hospitals, physicians, pharmacies, and mental health care providers within a 30 mile radius of Bryant University,

*International student athletes are required to be enrolled in this insurance plan and cannot waive out of the plan even if you have other coverage.

Qualifying Event Enrollment Process

Students may qualify for a special enrollment period if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. The qualifying event enrollment form is located on the left side of this page.You must submit the qualifying event enrollment form and supporting documentation within 31 days of the qualifying event to be eligible. Once eligibility is confirmed, the premium is added to the student's account. If the loss of other coverage occurs between 8/15 and 12/31, the student is responsible for paying the annual premium and if the loss of coverage occurs between 1/1 and 8/14, the student is responsible for paying the spring premium.
