All Pre-College Participants must have adequate health insurance prior to arriving on campus.
RISD is committed to promoting good health and meeting the medical needs of all its students. A health insurance plan is critical in providing peace of mind, knowing that students can receive the services they need in the event of a sickness or injury, particularly when away from home.
RISD requires all Pre-College students to carry adequate health insurance to help cover the extra expenses of medical treatment that is not covered by our Health Services.
To determine if you have adequate coverage, please consider the following:
If you have adequate coverage, no further action is required. If you do not have adequate coverage, you will need to enroll in the RISD Sponsored Student Health Insurance plan. The coverage is underwritten by UnitedHealthcare Student Resources, and provides coverage for the period of 06/20/20 – 08/01/20. The cost of the insurance is $172 and payment must be made on a credit card. To purchase this coverage, please select the “Enroll” tab to the left hand side of this page – Students must be enrolled prior to their arrival on campus, and the enrollment deadline date is June 15, 2020. Once you have completed the enrollment form, you will receive an enrollment confirmation number.
To review the RISD Student Health Insurance Plan design, please select the “Benefit Information” tab at the left hand side of this page.
When students use a preferred provider, their out-of-pocket expenses can be limited as students’ coinsurance expenses are based on negotiated Preferred Provider fees. The Plan provides coverage for expenses relating to injury or sickness including diagnostic testing, lab and x-ray services, doctor visits, and prescription drugs.
It is your responsibility to carefully compare your current insurance plan with that offered by RISD to ensure that the coverage is truly comparable. Should you choose NOT to take the insurance plan sponsored by RISD and offered through University Health Plans, you are attesting to the fact that you are familiar with both plans and will be responsible for providing for your medical and/or mental health needs should your own insurance prove insufficient.
We encourage you to read the information provided and take the time to make an informed decision regarding your health coverage. If you have questions regarding the RISD Student Health Insurance, please contact University Health Plans, Inc. directly at email@example.com or 800-437-6448.
