Salve Regina University
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN
2025-2026 Academic Year
As you prepare for the 2025-2026 academic year, we urge you to consider your health insurance coverage a top priority. It is important that students have access to comprehensive medical care while enrolled at Salve Regina University. Therefore, all undergraduate students who are enrolled in 12 or more credits as a full-time student, except for those in the RN-BSN program, are automatically enrolled in the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan for coverage effective August 15, 2025 - August 14, 2026 (Coverage is effective January 15, 2026 for new incoming Spring 2026 students). Each eligible student’s account will be charged the annual insurance premium. Should you wish to waive the insurance and fee follow the instructions below.
The Student Health Insurance Plan is underwritten by Wellfleet Insurance Company. Claims are paid by Wellfleet Group. Salve Regina has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit-related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 833-251-1140 or info@univhealthplans.com.

If you are considering waiving Salve’s Student Health Insurance Plan, please note that some insurance plans are restrictive and may leave students essentially uninsured while away at school. This could result in you incurring substantial out-of-pocket costs for medical care. In evaluating your plan, you must verify the following.
- My plan provides adequate coverage that is accessible in the Newport area for:
- Lab tests and x-rays
- Prescription drugs
- Hospitalization (including room & board, physicians’ fees and surgical expenses)
- Outpatient hospital services
- Mental health care
- Emergency room care
- Intercollegiate sports injuries (for those participating)
- My plan will cover me through August 14, 2026
- My plan does not have a high deductible that needs to be met before I am allowed to access coverage.
Waiver Process
Students’ participation in the Salve Regina University Health Plans Insurance Plan is mandatory unless you are enrolled in another comparable health insurance. If you choose to waive, you need to provide proof of comparable coverage by submitting the online waiver form before the posted deadline. A credit in the amount of the health insurance fee will be posted to your billing statement when Salve Regina receives the waiver form. This may take five to seven business days to be applied.
If you are planning to waive the Health Insurance to resolve your balance, you must complete the waiver before the student invoice date to prevent late fees or holds from being placed on your student account.
If you do not submit a waiver form by the deadline, you will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and be responsible for the charge on your bill.
Enrollment Process
Students who need coverage should confirm their enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan by completing the enrollment form located on the left-hand side of this page. You must enroll before 8/1/2025 to activate your coverage before the 8/15/2025 effective date and before 1/1/2026 to activate your coverage before the 1/15/2026 effective date. Spring coverage is only available to new incoming Spring 2026 students.
Although students are automatically charged for the Student Health Insurance Plan, students will not be automatically enrolled in the plan by Salve Regina after the waiver deadline is over. Students should complete the enrollment form as soon as possible to prevent any difficulties in accessing their health insurance benefits.
Students who waived the student insurance plan may qualify for special enrollment rights during the policy year if they lose their insurance coverage. You must contact University Health Plans at 833-251-1140 or info@univhealthplans.com within 31 days of the date you lost coverage to enroll.
