Students must either complete the On-Line Enrollment Form, to enroll in the Olin College Student Health Insurance Plan, or complete the On-Line Waiver Form to provide proof of comparable coverage.

To waive the Student Health Insurance Plan and report your own insurance:

  • The policy must be a US health insurance plan that is filed and approved in the US
  • The policy must provide coverage for the entire academic year with no break in coverage.
  • The policy must be in full compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and provide minimum essential coverage as defined by the ACA including:
    • The policy must provide an unlimited policy maximum
    • The policy cannot have a pre-existing condition limitation
    • The policy must provide emergency and non-emergency local coverage in the are of the College
    • The policy must provide an unlimited maximum for mental/behavioral health care for inpatient and outpatient services

Olin College does not allow certain students to waive off the QSHIP plan. If the student falls under one of the following categories they are ineligible for waiver and will be automatically enrolled:

  • Students with coverage from insurance carriers based outside the United States or coverage by foreign National Health Insurance programs.
  • International student insurance plans such as ISO, PSI and Student Medicover (these plans are not ACA compliant, are not filed in the US and are not eligible for a waiver.)
  • Students with a health insurance plan, such as out of state HMO and EPO plans, that provide coverage through a closed network of providers not reasonably assessable in the area where the student attends school, for all but emergency services; or
  • Students with a Health Safety Net, MassHealth Limited, or Children’s Medical Security Plan.
  • Travel insurance and short-term limited duration plans are not accepted.

The Olin College Student Health Insurance spring 2020 policy period begins on January 15, 2020 and runs through August 14, 2020. Students will be irrevocably enrolled in this plan unless a waiver is completed and received by Student Accounts prior to the deadline which has been extended through January 22, 2020. The waiver stipulates that personal coverage will be maintained during the spring 2020 policy period, January 15, 2020 through August 14, 2020. If a waiver is not on file by the deadline, December 1, 2019, the student will be billed the spring insurance premium, $966, and will remain responsible for payment of said premium. This waiver is for the 2019-2020 policy period only. A new waiver form must be submitted at least once each academic year.

If you are a MassHealth member, you are required to submit the MassHealth Premium Assistance form when completing the annual health insurance waiver process. Please click here for additional information about the MassHealth Premium Assistance Program.

If a student's insurance is cancelled at any point during the academic year they are required to notify the Student Accounts Manager within 60 days of the loss of coverage.
