All students enrolled at least 3/4 time are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, all students enrolled in 9 or more credits are automatically billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan. To read the details of this law, click here.
The 2021-2022 Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The plan is ACA compliant and includes access to Blue Cross Blue Shield's national PPO network of providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician and referrals are not required.
The 2021-2022 policy is based on a replication of the 2020-2021 plan design with the following plan changes:
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit-related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 800-437-6448 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

If you are covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan you can opt-out of the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology SHIP by completing the waiver form, located in the left-hand side navigation menu. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. Please consider the following:
If you do not submit a waiver form by the waiver deadline above, you will be enrolled in SHIP and responsible for the premium.
Students that would like to enroll in the SHIP may complete the enrollment form located in the left-hand side navigation menu. Confirming enrollment will ensure you receive your insurance card sooner than through the automatic enrollment process. Before confirming enrollment, we encourage students to compare all other insurance options. The Massachusetts Health Connector offers information for Massachusetts residents about the online marketplace where you can compare and purchase insurance plans. You may be eligible for a Subsidized Health Plan (a low or no-cost insurance program for qualifying uninsured adults).
Qualifying Event Enrollment Process
Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. To request an enrollment form and premium quote, contact University Health Plans at 800-437-6448 or email@example.com
To enroll, you must submit an enrollment form, letter from your prior insurance company documenting your loss of coverage, and payment within 60 days of the qualifying event. If all items are received by the deadline coverage will be effective as of the first day without coverage under your prior plan.
