Simmons University
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN

2026-2027 Academic Year

Eligibility

All students enrolled 3/4 time and taking at least one class that is not online are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. The general credit threshold for 3/4 time is 9 credits for undergraduate students and 7 credits for graduate students with some exceptions. To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, Simmons University students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan, which is separate from the Health Center fee. To read the details on this law, click here. Students are not allowed to waive coverage with a Health Safety Net Plan.

Students enrolled less than 3/4 time are not eligible for the student health insurance. If you enroll in the student health insurance but drop below the 3/4 time threshold within 60 days of 8/15/2026, you will lose coverage. If as a new Spring student, you enroll in the student health insurance but drop below the 3/4 time threshold within 60 days of 1/1/2027, you will lose coverage. Students enrolled in online-only classes are not eligible for the student health insurance plan.

Waiver Process

If you have a comparable health insurance plan, you may waive the student coverage by clicking on the waiver form below or in the navigation menu. You will need to have your health insurance information readily available before proceeding. Upon confirmation of a properly completed waiver, the charge for medical insurance will be reversed on your student account. If you lose coverage during the academic year, then you are obligated to obtain other comparable coverage or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan within 60 days.
