Suffolk University
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN
2026-2027 Academic Year
Dear Student,
Massachusetts law and Suffolk University policy require all students enrolled at least 75% of full-time status to maintain comprehensive health insurance coverage, including access to preventive, urgent, emergency, and behavioral healthcare in the Boston area.
All eligible students are automatically enrolled in the Suffolk Student Health Insurance Plan (SSHIP) for coverage from August 20, 2026, to August 19, 2027. Students should review plan benefits to determine if it meets their needs. A summary of the SSHIP benefits can be found here.
Students with comparable U.S.-based, ACA-compliant coverage may waive SSHIP by submitting the waiver form annually before the deadline. Failure to do so will result in enrollment and a non-reversible charge.
Coverage Dates, Costs, and Deadlines
| Annual Students | New Spring Students | |
| Coverage Dates | 8/20/2026 - 8/19/2027 | 1/1/2027 - 8/19/2027 |
| Costs | $3,745 | $2,392 |
| Waiver Deadlines | September 20, 2026 | February 1, 2027 |
Waiver Requirements
To qualify for a waiver, your insurance plan must:
- Be U.S.-based and ACA-compliant
-
Provide comprehensive provider access in the Boston area (including medical and behavioral health services)
-
Not be limited to emergency-only or short-term coverage
International, travel, and many out-of-state plans do not meet these requirements.
International Students
Suffolk requires all international students to be insured with an ACA compliant, filed, and approved policy in the U.S. All international students are automatically enrolled in SSHIP and are not required to take action. International insurance plans do not meet Suffolk’s waiver requirements.
Special Enrollment
Students who lose other coverage may enroll in SSHIP within 60 days of the qualifying event by submitting required documentation and payment. Students can access the qualifying event enrollment form on the left-hand side of the menu or here.
