Massachusetts requires students enrolled at least 75% of full-time, who are not enrolled solely in short-term courses or an online program, to be covered by health insurance. Students required to have health insurance are enrolled in the American International College (AIC) Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) unless proof of comparable coverage is provided by completing the waiver form.
Plan Highlights
The 2023-2024 AIC SHIP is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The plan is ACA-compliant and includes access to Blue Cross Blue Shield's national PPO network of providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician; referrals are not required.

Enrollment Process
If you are planning to use the student health insurance plan, complete the enrollment form in the navigation menu to the left to initiate the transfer of your information to the insurance company. Students required to have insurance who do not submit an enrollment or waiver form will be enrolled in the SHIP after the deadline, retroactive to August 1, 2023.
Part-time students who are not mandated to have insurance may enroll in the SHIP on a voluntary basis by completing the enrollment form by the deadline. The insurance charge will be added to the student billing statement.
If you are a student whose practicum has been extended into the Fall 2023 semester and will be graduating by December 31, 2023, then you are eligible to enroll in the Fall Only insurance. To request insurance for Fall Only, please follow the steps below:
Waiver Process
If you are covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan, you can opt-out of the AIC SHIP by completing the waiver form in the navigation menu to the left by the deadline above. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. Please consider the following:
If you do not submit a waiver form by the deadline above, you will be enrolled in SHIP and responsible for the premium.
Please note: If your waiver request requires additional information for approval, documents must be submitted by the deadline above.
Qualifying Event Enrollment Process
Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. To request an enrollment form and premium quote, contact university health plans at 833-251-1746 or info@univhealthplans.com.
To enroll, you must submit an enrollment form, a letter from your prior insurance company documenting your loss of coverage, and payment within 60 days of the qualifying event. If all three items are received by the deadline, coverage will be effective as of the first day without coverage under your prior plan.
