Full-appointment TAs/GAs are eligible for the State Health Benefits Plan (SHBP). If you are a NEW Full appointment TA/GA, you will enroll in the SHBP with University Human Resources (UHR). Visit uhr.rutgers.edu/teaching-assistants-graduate-assistants for more information. You will complete the SHBP forms and submit the forms to UHR. Once you have submitted your forms to UHR and they input your information into their software system then we can remove the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Premium from your account. Please allow approximately 10 business days for this process. You are not required to complete the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) waiver form. The Student Health Insurance Office will remove the SHIP premium once you are in UHR's system, showing you have submitted your SHBP paperwork to UHR.
If you are a returning TA/GA, once your appointment has been updated in Rutgers Payroll system by your department then the Student Health Insurance Office will waive the SHIP for you and the premium will be removed from your student account.
NOTE: If you are declining the SHBP then you must waive the SHIP by completing the full-time waiver form for the SHIP online at https://www.universityhealthplans.com/secure/waiver.cgi?group_id=269 by the deadline.
