Rutgers University is pleased to present you with information about the Rutgers University Student Health Insurance Plan. The Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan is administered by University Health Plans and underwritten by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company.
With the rising costs of healthcare and increase in utilization of the Rutgers student health insurance plan, the following plan changes have been imposed for the 2022-2023 academic year to help keep the insurance premium and the plan a viable option for students. The plan change for 2022-2023 is physician visit copay will be $35.
Post-Doctoral Fellows
All full-time Post-Doctoral Fellows and eligible dependents (at the fellow’s expense) will need to complete a Health Insurance Enrollment Form. Post- Doctoral Fellows in a legacy UMDNJ position at Rutgers should submit the enrollment form to the RBHS Risk & Claims Office. Post-Doctoral Fellows in a Rutgers position should submit the completed application to their department.
New Brunswick Graduate Fellows
Graduate Fellows who have been awarded a Full Fellowship from internal or external sources are eligible. The Graduate School Dean’s Office will make final determinations as to the individual eligibility. Upon this determination, you will be automatically enrolled in the Graduate Fellows Health Insurance plan with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR). No Waiver Action required, UNLESS you are declining the Graduate Fellow Health Insurance, 2022-202826-1. If you are declining, then you must complete a waiver form for the Student Health Insurance Policy, 2022-519-2 by clicking HERE. Insureds may enroll their eligible dependents by contacting University Health Plans at 833-251-1142.
Newark and Camden Graduate Fellows please contact your department to see if you are eligible to enroll in the Graduate Fellow Plan.
Less than Full Appointment Partial TAs & GAs
Less than full appointment Partial TAs/GAs are eligible under this plan as determined by University Human Resources (UHR). Once you are on payroll, call UHR at (848) 932-3990 between 8/10/22 – 9/18/22 for Fall 2022 to confirm employment status and ensure enrollment in the Less Than Full Appointment Partial TA/GA health Insurance Plan. No waiver action required; you will be automatically enrolled by UHR. Insureds may enroll their eligible dependents by completing the dependent enrollment form on the left. The premium is paid by the Insured directly to University Health Plans.
Optional Dental and Vision Plans
Rutgers University is pleased to offer our students and their dependents a Dental and Vision insurance plan at their cost. You may enroll in these plans on a VOLUNTARY basis; it is not required insurance. The on-line enrollment forms, plan benefit highlights and a list of participating providers can be found by linking to http://www.universityhealthplans.com and selecting Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and follow the prompts to DeltaCare Dental Plan or VSP Vision Care Plan. You can access these plans on the left-hand side menu under Optional Plans.
