Qualifying Event Enrollment

A qualifying life event, such as loss of health coverage, marriage, the birth of a child, or entry into the United States, may make you and/or your eligible dependents eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. This allows enrollment in the University of Delaware Student Health Insurance Plan outside of the open enrollment period.

Enrollment requests must be submitted within 31 days of the qualifying event date.

Important Information About Effective Dates

When enrolling due to a qualifying life event, the coverage effective date you select must match the date of the qualifying event:

• Loss of coverage: Effective date must be the first day without other health insurance coverage.
• Marriage: Effective date must be the date of marriage.
• Birth of a child: Effective date must be the child's date of birth.

Important: Enrollment requests with effective dates that do not match the supporting documentation cannot be processed, and any premiums submitted will be refunded. Selecting an incorrect effective date may result in your enrollment being denied and refunded.
