All students enrolled in at least 75% of the full-time curriculum are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, undergraduate students registered for 9 or more credits are automatically billed for the SHIP. Graduate students, with the exception of the AE-MSN program, are not eligible for the Student Health Insurance Plan as these programs are made up of short-term courses that meet once a week for 15 weeks or less per semester.
The 2023-2024 Curry College Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The plan is ACA-compliant and includes access to Blue Cross Blue Shield's national PPO network of providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician and referrals are not required. A summary of the plan benefits, find a doctor tool, and FAQs can be found in the navigation menu on the left-hand side of this page.
Curry College has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit-related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 833-251-1731 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cost and Coverage Periods
|Annual Students||New Spring Students||New Summer Students|
|Coverage Dates||8/1/23 - 7/31/24||1/1/24 - 7/31/24||5/1/24 - 7/31/24|
Students who need coverage should enroll in the SHIP by completing the enrollment form located in the left-hand side navigation menu. You must enroll in the plan to activate your coverage as of January 1, 2023. Although students are automatically charged for the Student Health Insurance Plan, students will not be automatically enrolled in the plan by the College until after the deadline date. Students should complete the enrollment form as soon as possible to avoid difficulties in accessing their health insurance benefits.
If you are covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan you can opt out of the Curry College SHIP by completing the waiver form, located in the left-hand side navigation menu. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. In order to waive, your plan must meet the below insurance requirements:
Waiver forms will be reviewed by the plan broker and administrator, University Health Plans. Travel insurance plans, international health insurance plans, and short-term limited-duration plans do not meet the waiver requirements and will not be accepted. Students must have a US-filed and approved Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant health insurance plan.
If you are planning to waive the student health insurance to resolve part of your outstanding student account balance you must complete the waiver before the invoice due date to avoid a late fee or other actions on your student account.
If you do not submit a waiver form by the waiver deadline above, you will be enrolled in SHIP and responsible for the premium.
Qualifying Event Enrollment Process
Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. The Qualifying Event Enrollment Form can be found in the navigation menu on the left-hand side of this page. To request a premium quote, contact University Health Plans at 800-437-6448 or email@example.com
To enroll, you must submit an enrollment form, a letter from your prior insurance company documenting your loss of coverage, and payment within 60 days of the qualifying event. If all items are received by the deadline coverage will be effective as of the first day without coverage under your prior plan.
Spring Termination Request Process
Due to the Massachusetts Student Health Insurance Plan Regulation, Curry College is required to allow students to terminate their SHIP mid-academic year if the student is newly eligible for a Massachusetts Subsidized Health Plan or MassHealth prior to the start of the Spring Term (before 1/1/24) or if a student will no longer be attending the College in the Spring Term. To request the Spring Termination Request form, please contact University Health Plans at 833-251-1731 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to request spring termination is January 31, 2024.
