Curry College

2022-2023 Academic Year

The 2021-2022 Annual and Spring waiver and enrollment deadlines have passed.
Only newly admitted and eligible Summer 2022 students may waive the Summer 2022 Student Health Insurance Plan at this time.
The Summer 2022 waiver deadline is July 25, 2022.

All students enrolled in at least 75% of the full-time curriculum are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, undergraduate students registered for 9 or more credits are automatically billed for the SHIP. Graduate students are not eligible for the Student Health Insurance Plan as these programs are made up of short-term courses that meet once a week for 15 weeks or less per semester.

Plan Highlights

The 2022-2023 Curry College Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The plan is ACA compliant and includes access to Blue Cross Blue Shield's national PPO network of providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician and referrals are not required.

Curry College has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit-related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 833-251-1731 or

If you are covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan you can opt out of the Curry College SHIP by completing the waiver form, located in the left-hand side navigation menu. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. Please consider the following: Waiver/Enrollment Process

  • Your plan must provide access to doctors, specialists, hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and mental health/behavioral health providers in the area where you attend school.
  • The policy must be a US health insurance plan that is filed and approved in the US and ACA (Affordable Care Act) compliant. Travel insurance, international insurance plans, and short-term limited duration plans are not accepted.
  • Out-of-state Medicaid and many out-of-state HMO or EPO plans do not provide out-of-network coverage and therefore do not provide coverage for non-emergency care in the local area surrounding Curry College. Urgent and/or emergency-only coverage does not meet the SHIP requirements.
  • If you are enrolled in MassHealth Limited, Children’s Medical Security, or Health Safety Net Plan you are not eligible to waive as these are not comprehensive plans and do not meet the MA State Regulation.

Waiver forms will be reviewed by the plan broker and administrator, University Health Plans. Travel insurance plans, international health insurance plans, and short-term limited duration plans do not meet the waiver requirements and will not be accepted. Students must have a US health insurance plan filed and approved in the United States and compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

If you are planning to waive the student health insurance to resolve part of your outstanding student account balance you must complete the waiver before the invoice due date to avoid a late fee or other actions on your student account.

If you do not submit a waiver form by the waiver deadline above, you will be enrolled in SHIP and responsible for the premium.

Students that need coverage should enroll in the SHIP by completing the enrollment form located in the left-hand side navigation menu.  You must enroll in the plan to activate your coverage as of August 1, 2022. Although students are automatically charged for the Student Health Insurance Plan, students will not be automatically enrolled in the plan by the College until after the deadline date. Students should complete the enrollment form as soon as possible to avoid difficulties in accessing their health insurance benefits.

Qualifying Event Enrollment Process

Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. To request an enrollment form and premium quote, contact University Health Plans at 833-251-1731 or

To enroll, you must submit an enrollment form, a letter from your prior insurance company documenting your loss of coverage, and payment within 60 days of the qualifying event. If all items are received by the deadline coverage will be effective as of the first day without coverage under your prior plan.
