Plan Highlights

The 2020-21 Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is insured by Aetna Student Health. The plan is ACA compliant and includes access to Aetna’s national network of PPO providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician, and referrals are not required. Benefit information and links to your online ID card and claims portal can be found on the left side of this page. IIT has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 800-437-6448 or info@univhealthplans.com.

Waiver Process

Students covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan that meets the waiver requirements can opt out of the SHIP by completing the waiver form by the extended deadline of September 15, 2020. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. Failure to complete the waiver will result in a student being enrolled and responsible for the Health Insurance Fee.

Dependent Enrollment

If you are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you may also purchase coverage for your eligible dependents by completing the enrollment form in the navigation menu on the left.

Qualifying Event Enrollment

Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. To request an enrollment form and premium quote, contact the Student Health & Wellness Center at 312-567-7550. You must submit all qualifying event enrollment paperwork and documentation within 60 days of the qualifying event.
