The Illinois Institute of Technology requires all students who have registered for one academic credit hour or more, to have health insurance. All students will be billed and added to the Illinois Institute of Technology Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) once enrolled in one academic credit hour of class.
All international students at IIT are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and do not need to take action. International students are not able to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan.

The 2022-23 Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is insured by Aetna Student Health. The plan is ACA compliant and includes access to Aetna’s national network of PPO providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician, and referrals are not required. Benefit information and links to your online ID card and claims portal can be found on the left side of this page. IIT has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit related questions. University Health Plans can be reached at 833-251-1718 or email@example.com.
Students covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan that meets the waiver requirements can opt out of the SHIP by completing the Fall waiver form by the deadline of September 1, 2022. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. Failure to complete the waiver will result in a student being enrolled and responsible for the Health Insurance Fee.
If you are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you may also purchase coverage for your eligible dependents by completing the dependent enrollment form located under the navigation menu.

Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. To request an enrollment form and premium quote, contact the Student Health & Wellness Center at 312-567-7550. You must submit all qualifying event enrollment paperwork and documentation within 60 days of the qualifying event.
