Please Note: Effective August 25, 2026, SVA's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) will be insured by Aetna Student Health.
With any carrier change, there are important things you need to consider as you transition to the new policy:
- Network Access: The provider network is changing from Wellfleet's Cigna to Aetna's PPO network. While many Cigna providers are expected to be in-network with Aetna, you should confirm your provider's participation before your next appointment.
- Plan Benefits: The detailed benefit summary is coming soon. The new plan is designed to align closely with Wellfleet's current benefits and exclusions. However, all claims will be processed according to Aetna's policy terms and conditions. The following plan changes have been made.
- Office Visit Copay will change to $20
- In-Network Out of Pocket Maximum will change to $8,500
- Prescription cost share will change to $10/20%/20%
- Prescription Drugs & Prior Authorizations: If you are currently taking medication or receiving care that requires prior authorization, your provider will need to submit a new authorization request to Aetna once the policy is effective. Please be sure to plan ahead and have medication on hand while your prior authorization is processed.
- Insurance ID Card: A new Aetna ID card will be required. Once the policy is active, you can request your ID card via a secure email link (available on the left side of the webpage), or download it through the Aetna member app. When setting up a member account we encourage you to choose to receive communication electronically. Physical cards will be mailed after the waiver deadline and only if there is a valid U.S. mailing address on file.
Full plan documents will be available once the plan is approved by NY State.
