2026-2027 Academic Year
Health Insurance Requirement
Students enrolled in on-ground programs and registered for 7 or more graduate credits or 9 or more undergraduate credits are required to maintain health insurance and must:

Plan Highlights
The SHIP is insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and includes plan design changes for 2026-2027. Please view the plan documents in the menu. The plan is ACA-compliant and includes BCBS’s national PPO network. Please note: All ID cards for the 2026–2027 plan year will be digital only. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) will not mail a physical ID card. Look up your BCBS MA Member ID in the menu and use that member ID to register for a MyBlue account.
Waiver Process
Students covered by a US health insurance plan that is filed and approved in the US and fully compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), that also provides comprehensive (non-emergency) health benefits near the student’s Bay Path campus, may request a waiver by the deadline noted above.

Standard MassHealth benefits meet the waiver requirements. MassHealth Limited, Health Safety Net, and Children's Medical Security Plan (CMSP) coverage alone do not meet the waiver requirements. Short-term medical plans, limited-benefit medical plans, health sharing plans, travel plans, international plans, plans from foreign health plans, and plans marketed only to international students do not meet the waiver requirements.
Students in a hybrid program are charged and required to waive, but are not required to have comprehensive benefits near a Bay Path Campus if they have comprehensive coverage in the area in which they live. Online-only students are not charged for the insurance plan and are not required to waive.
Enrollment Process
Coverage for students required to have insurance is activated after you submit the enrollment form or after your deadline passes. If you plan to enroll in the plan, complete the enrollment form to confirm your coverage and access your insurance member information. Students who are not mandated to enroll in the plan must request enrollment by completing the voluntary student enrollment form.
Eligibility and Termination
Students must maintain eligibility for the first 31 days of the semester. Once eligibility requirements for annual SHIP coverage have been met, coverage remains in effect for the entire academic year, including the spring semester, regardless of enrollment status
-
Are not returning to Bay Path for the spring semester; or
-
Have enrolled in a new health insurance plan that meets the University's waiver requirements.
Dependent coverage is not available under SHIP.
Qualifying Event Enrollment
Students who waived the SHIP may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if they lose their other health insurance coverage. To enroll, select the Qualifying Life Event Enrollment Form from the menu and submit it, along with supporting documentation, within 60 days of the loss of coverage.
