New Spring Students: All full-time and three-quarter time graduate and undergraduate students must either waive or enroll in the UMassD Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) at the beginning of each academic year.
The following students who are taking at least one class on campus are eligible and must either waive or enroll:
- Matriculating undergraduate students enrolled in 9 or more credits
- Matriculating graduate students enrolled in 7 or more credits (Matriculating graduate students taking 6 credits are not automatically enrolled but may contact the Bursar’s Office if interested in enrolling in SHIP).
- Matriculating School of Law students enrolled in 9 or more credits
- All matriculating international students regardless of credit hours will be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan.
Part-time study, independent study, internet classes and television (TV) courses may not fulfill the eligibility requirements that the covered student actively attends classes. Students taking only on-line classes are not eligible for school insurance.
New spring students who have other comparable health insurance coverage and do not want to be enrolled in the UMassD SHIP must submit this online Waiver Form by the spring deadline, February 4, 2026. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS after this deadline.
This is the only way to request the removal of the spring 2026 UMassD SHIP charge from a student's account. Submitting a copy of your insurance ID card through the Health Services Portal does not satisfy the requirement to waive the SHIP.

- Provide coverage for the entire policy period with no break in coverage.
